Travis Tuesday

Time is slow…

Author Bio Pic

Well...not really sure where to start as I've never 'blogged' before...I assume if you're reading this you're curious what the hell's going on...

The current plan of action starts Monday, February 1 (my boys 3rd birthday). I have a series of tests I have to go through, including a physical and pre-surgery consult. This will take most of Monday and we will stay in Omaha that night (I'm already looking forward to some Zio's pizza!).

Tuesday, I'm scheduled for surgery at 730am. It will take around 1.5 - 2 hours for Dr. Aizenberg to perform the craniotomy (open my skull). During this time I will be knocked out from the anesthesia.  But lucky me...once she's done with that, they're going to wake me up! It seems completely crazy to me...but from what I've learned, doing an awake surgery only helps in trying to make sure no permanent damage is done. The surgery overall will be anywhere from 6-8 hrs, maybe longer. I feel horrible knowing Karla will have to wait through that...the only comfort I have is knowing her sis Jodie will be there and we've been told that they will give her updates every couple of hours.

I wish this was all happening tomorrow...I just want to get after it so I/we can start figuring out what's next. In the meantime, I'm just trying to enjoy time with my family and keep myself occupied.

Be well.

  1. Travis, Karla, Brody, Timmy,
I have not even spoken to you guys yet, but have focused on your folks instead, Trav. But, I hope you know how much I love all of you, and how optimistic I am. It is amazing how far surgical techniques and treatments have come. Please try to keep thinking only the most positive thoughts, and I will too! See you soon.
    Love, Ilene

  2. Travis – I am so touched by your sharing of this experience. I wont pretend to know anything of how it must truly feel to go through this – but, as a psychologist, what I can tell you is that attitude is everything! In which case, we will see you back in the office, fully recovered before you know it. Blessed Be!

  3. Travis, Karla & the Birthday Boys!
We are thinking of you all and praying for you. We know how hard this all is, having gone through much of the same a year ago – but I’m proof that prayer and positive thoughts work! Please know that we are here if we can help in any way.

  9. Love the site. You and your family are in our thoughts and prayers. Keep the faith and the excellent attitude. Everyone is with you during the “obstacle” as Chimp Tits had stated. Anything you or your family need, please let us know.

  10. This is a great site and Brian and I wish you the best on the 2nd! Good Luck and I hope for a quick recovery…..we have some shows to hit down the road.

  11. Genius idea having this site, then you don’t have to tell everyone the same thing over and over. In that same spirit I’m not going to repeat what others have said, just know that we’re in your corner too. Prayers are being said on the daily for you and Karla. And if you ever need anyone to hang with the boys, sit in an office with Karla, etc. don’t hesitate to call me – 464-1913
    Huge hugs,
    Amy

  15. Hey Travis,

  16. Hey Travis,

Thanks for the update on this – I really appreciate it. You and your family will be in our thoughts and prayers. I’m glad this plan is moving along quickly. Fantasy league is only a few months away and you need to be ready.

    Ryan

  17. travis,
my brother just sent me a link to your page.
i called Zios for you. hopefully they will be getting a hold of you soon. if not give me a ring when your in town and we all can go(bring the whole family), my treat!
i love Zio’s and any excuse to go is a good one. plus going thru brain surgery sounds bad enought. You might deserve a break.

  18. Hi Travis,

I offered you the other day, “If you need a babysitter, call me.”, but I take that back. I realized that I am not a “babysitter” type of person. Your twin will not be safe with me. (or am I the one who is not safe??) Instead, here are some things that I can do for you and your family during this tough time to make your family’s life easier.

Clean your house – I am really good at cleaning.
Clean your car – I know the best car wash in town.
Fix lunch or dinner for your family – I am a decent cook. Though, I leave “breakfast” out, because I am not a morning person.
Give a ride – I drive like a grandma, so everyone’s safety is guaranteed.

Please don’t hesitate to call me or send me email for any of those when your family needs it.

    Best wishes!!

  19. Hey Travis, You don’t know me from a hole in the ground, but I am a friend of your mom’s and a wellwisher for you! You have a great sense of humor and I look forward to reading your book about the whole experience when it is behind you! Positive prayers and thoughts coming your direction next week – enjoy your pizza and hope they serve ice cream after this surgery as they do for tonsillectomies. Lots of friends (and even strangers like me!) are in your corner!
    All the best,
    Lula

  20. Travis,
Zio’s pizza is our favorite! Besides getting to be with my family, it’s the best thing about living in Omaha.

I’m just SO glad you guys have a plan of action. It feels right that she is going to go in and remove that stupid tumor.

As fun as awake brain surgery sounds, I’m glad it’s you and not me. We’re pulling for you.

Dori, Scott, Addy, Cassius, and Ophelia.

  21. Hey buddy, only you would think about eating at Zio’s pizza!!!! I have to say that I am in awe of your attitude and will. Your desire to just get after it and begin the healing process is reflective of how you handle everything else in your life. I’ve always known you to never back down from a challenge and to meet your obstacles head on. And that is all this is my friend….. an obstacle! One that you will meet head on and defeat and we are pulling for you and behind you no matter how long it takes.

  22. Looking forward to buying you a Culver’s concrete mixer when you’re back!

  23. Hi Travis and family – please know you are in our thoughts and prayers daily. Have a slice of Zio’s for me!

  24. Travis, it sounds like you’re keeping in good spirits and you have a wonderful family to help in that cause. Just remember that you have others to lean on if you or your family need a helping hand, shoulder, or whatever!

We are keeping you in our thoughts and prayers (as long as you leave us some Zio’s…)

    Stay strong!

  25. Everyone is pulling for you Travis! We are all looking forward to seeing your updates.

  26. I am glad to see that you are “cracking” jokes and staying upbeat. I know I haven’t seen your doctor/surgeon’s resume, but I am positive that she enjoyed going to her science and medical classes and NEVER had to be “dragged” to class. I find that comforting :) . My prayers are for the steady hands of the surgeon and the quick recovery for you. (and comfort for your wife during the waiting game).

You have wonderful family and friends..I can tell. Thank your friend for setting this site up so that I can keep updated and in touch. It’s great!

Take care of you…MAY THE FORCE BE WITH YOU! :)

  27. You’re in our thoughts and prayers as always. It’s a good thing Grey’s Anatomy exisits because I can picture what your surgery will consist of. :) (That’s sort of scary I get medical knowledge from a tv show.)

    Be well yourself! :)
