Hey Trav-man!
I’ve never known anyone as persistent as you. You can turn a question of “How’d the Cards do today?” into an hour long “conversation” where in the end I’ve been pleasantly made aware of the top 50 reasons the Cubs suck this particular year. I enjoy every minute of it. You’re gonna beat this thing! Our thoughts and prayers will be with you, your family, and your Dr tomorrow. Happy Bday T and B!
I have told your story and shared your blog spot with all I know! I hope that you find strength and encouragement with all the prayers, positive thoughts and vibes being sent your way. Time to move forward and beat this thing!!
Travis,
Just heard from my mom what you are going through. I just wanted to let you know I will be praying for you and sending lots of positive energy your way for tomorrow’s surgery and future treatments. Happy 3rd Birthday to your boys! They are adorable! So excited to learn you have twins…after all it is the most awesome thing! Anyways, I will be checking back to your site and rooting for you and your family to get through this with flying colors!
Katie (Shamblin) Taddeucci
Burkman, Karla and Boys,
We don’t even have the words…you are constant fixtures in our thoughts and in our prayers always. We love you and KNOW this will turn out great!!! You have what it takes to stare this in the eye and win. We will be here every step of the way, even if it’s from afar.
God Bless,
Chris and Jennifer Hoelscher and the small orphanage
Travis,
I’ve been thinking about you, Karla and the boys a lot in the past few days. I hope your little guys had a blast this weekend for their birthday and I’m sure you enjoyed every minute. We are all cheering for you and I’ve recruited some new fans of yours! I like to tell people, this guy is a Longhorn fan living in Lincoln which might be worse than a Wildcat living in Lincoln!
Stay positive and you will beat this! I know it!
Jill
Yo. I drew a little map in my head from here to O-town. Sending only good thoughts your way. I may have recruited a few people along the way, probably picked up a few at the bars in KC! Only good thoughts, let the rest go away!
Back on the road again! ~J
T-Burk, I wanted to call, but didn’t want to interrupt anything this weekend. I’ve been thinking of you and Karla, and I’ll be sending positive vibes your way (already have been!). You told me this summer that we need to have a drink, and I want you to know, I’m still holding you to that! I’ll buy of course…
I noticed that you are in type 3 out of 4, and I just wanted to drop a little baseball stat on you. You are already hitting .250, so that means a home run is in the “Cards” because you are due!
Plus, that MEG thing sounded a little like Darth Vader in his chamber during Empire Strikes Back…I know how much your wife loves my Star Wars analogies!
Good luck, I know you’ll kick this things @$$! God Bless.
Travis, you and your family are in my thoughts and prayers even more this week. I know everything will go well – it sounds like you’re in good hands!
Happy birthday to T & B!
Cheryl and I just heard the news. You and your family will be in our thoughts and prayers as take on this battle. We know that you will beat this! This is a great site and we will be checking it daily.
Karla & Travis~
We are thinking of you!! Please keep us posted on how things are going and please let us know if you need anything. Keep your chin up! Love you both!

Travis and Karla, a day doesn’t go by that we aren’t thinking about the two of you and your adorable boys. Please know you are in our thoughts and prayers and if there is anything we can do for you while you are recovering please don’t hesitate to give us a call. It sounds like you have a lot of wonderful friends and family that are supporting you through this journey. Wishing you all the best! Bryan and Aimee Crook
hey karla and travis!
just wanted to let you know i’m thinking and praying for you everyday! when you’ve beaten this, jodie and karla will have your success story to scrapbook, so always make sure to smile nice for the camera!
p.s. karla, thanks for the great pics you always send me of the boys every year! LUV ‘EM!!
Travis: You still looks as fit and dedicated as that little lad who played such great soccer for us all those years ago. You will always be part of that special group for Ileana and me and are never far from our thoughts and prayers as you courageously confront your surgery. All the best from the little Irish Clan on Manse.
Travis, Wishing you well! My thoughts AND my prayers include you, your family, and all of the medical staff that will be involved with your surgery and recovery. Do you know that one of the words used in describing the meaning of your name is “crossroad”? A point in a journey where an important choice must be made. Beat it!
My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. Your spirit and strength as you go through this journey absolutely amaze me. You will beat this, I know you will!
Travis, you’ve been in, and will stay in my family’s prayers. My kids are now talking about ‘mommy’s old friend Travis’ in normal conversation. Funny. Between your mom updating the birthday group and reading through your blog and facebook updates I’m getting the hang of following your story. I really want to meet your wife and boys. I wish we had done something by now but we’ll have to wait til you feel better and then go crazy. I’ll read up and then contact you when it looks like you’re recovered enough to meet at playland Best of luck and God bless!
Travis,
Your old pal Caleb here…I’m thinking about baseball card shows, and soccer practice with Coach Burns, and Tony Hawk skateboards, and birthday sleepovers and SE football games and SAE parties. Just some fine Burkman memories of mine. I’m also thinking you’ll handle this thing with courage, tenacity and MMA-style strength. Lots of love and prayers and good thoughts coming your way from Portland.
“We cannot change the cards we are dealt, just how we play the hand”
Keep your head held high and stay positive. Laura and I think and pray for you all daily and hope that your surgery is a success. God bless and wishing you all the best Travis!
travis, we think it would be fun to share some of our favorite memories with you. like the times when we spent the night on the bunk beds u got for us, our soccer battles, when u came to the rescue to get the bird out of our cabinet because mom and us were to scared to go inside, on Christmas when i got my karaoke machine when all of u guys went crazy, when u wrapped me up in millions of blankets, when u hung halie upside down and tickled her, all of our water gun and balloon fights on the fourth of july, and many more. we can’t wait to make a million more memories. you are such a great uncle. we hope that everything goes well and we can all fight through this together. anytime u need us we will always be there for u.
keeping you and karla and the twins in my prayers! hope things go well and you kick this in the ass and let it know who’s the boss! keep fighting and hanging in there, i know you can do it! if you guys ever need anything give me a holler i would love to help out
I work with your wife Karla at CCH. We have met a few time before but it’s nearly impossible to remember everyone there! Anyway, I just just want you to know that I along with everyone at CCH are pulling hard for you! We will pray for you, the surgeon, and your family. Stay strong!
To my daily prayers for you all and the doctors who will be doing your surgery and recovery (Dr. Aizenberg), I am also sending all the positive-mojo-energy-vibes I’ve got! You guys are so amazingly strong! ((HUGS))
i have no doubt you are strong enough to beat this. know why? because you make my sister happy & only someone with incredible will can do that! and you do it daily. thank you for that. and thank you for being a phenomenal daddy to my precious nephews, a fantastic uncle to my kids & the brother i never had.
When this awful battle is over & you have won, you will have an amazing story to tell your grandkids. and they will be just as proud of you then as we all are right now.
for reasons unknown to us, this is what life has handed you. i’m glad that you are the kind of guy who will hand it back & say “no thanks”!! (actually, you have a few of your own choice words, but let’s keep this PG rated).
Travis, What a battle you have in front of you. I know the energy, love and spirit of those two boys will give you the strength to fight this. You have many people behind you, best of all your wife and boys. Fight hard, you’re in my thoughts always!
Travis & Karla,
If I know one thing – the West family is full of fighters so you have a great group to stand behind you and fight this beast! You also have your Kenexa Survey family pulling for you as well.
